I’ve always wanted to write an angry Asian character, because I feel for Asian-Americans there is a lot of anger that’s suppressed. I feel like a lot of the representations I read when I was growing up of Asian-Americans in literature was that there’s only this model of deference or intense sadness. “Joy Luck Club” is an intensely sad book, for example.
